Roundabouts are becoming more popular throughout Michigan. MDOT, Road Commissions and cities build roundabouts to improve traffic flow at congested intersections and to save lives while reducing severe injuries sustained from collisions.

Many drivers enjoy the benefits roundabouts offer a community. But some supporters are also frustrated by other drivers who do not navigate roundabouts correctly. For example, in a 2016 survey conducted by the Washtenaw County Road Commission that received over 4,300 responses, 76% supported or were neutral to the construction of roundabouts. But the #1 suggestion offered by respondents was the need for improved education on how to navigate roundabouts correctly.

The intent of the petition is to show our newly elected Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson that many of her constituents want her Department to: (1) improve roundabout education so drivers of all ages use them correctly; (2) for the Department of State to engage and partner with leverage groups such as law enforcement and the insurance industry to spread content to its stakeholders and customers.
