Move the Line, NOT the Kids

Move the Line, NOT the Kids

The Issue

We are asking our state representatives to annex our property at 56 Richardson Drive, Middlebury CT to the Middlebury school district (Region 15). This is in response to Region 15's sudden decision to un-enroll our two children, Faith 5th grade, and Alijah 7th grade, after 8 years of being in the Middlebury school system (without deception or dispute). When we bought our home 10 years ago, it was advertised, valued and sold as a Middlebury property. We had reassurances from the Middlebury town hall, realtors, and the previous family (who had children attending Middlebury schools) that the district was Middlebury in terms of schooling. Incorporating the property into the Middlebury district has several advantages. 1) It will allow Faith and Alijah to stay in their school, rather than be uprooted to Waterbury. 2) It will eliminate future confusion over districting and boundary lines regarding this property. 3) Middlebury will receive 100% of the property tax rather than splinting it between Waterbury. This is particularly beneficial to Middlebury seeing as they service the entire road including snow removal, road maintenance, gutter cleaning, tree trimming, landscaping, sewer, water, ect. Additionally, Middlebury emergency services (not Waterbury) would respond to this property. 4) The inclusion will strengthen community bonds and unity. We are the only family on the road being affected by this boundary line dispute. All the other children on the road go to Middlebury schools. 5) Lastly, moving the line to incorporate our property will not impose on any other personal property or create an issue for any other home owners in the area. To remove my children from an environment in which they have been established is both unfair and cruel. The school is unwilling to compromise, which leads us to the most reasonable option- to move the boundary line. Thank you or your attention and support!
