After a year of marches, camps, direct actions and fierce opposition, the Dakota Access Pipeline has been built. This fact is devastating to us, to know that our government cares more about profits than our lives. However we take heart knowing that even though we didn’t stop the pipeline, we helped to spark a movement that will have an impact so much greater than this one pipeline. The fight isn’t over. Across the country, water protectors are pushing their cities and universities to divest from DAPL and the fossil fuel industry, and it’s working! Santa Monica and Seattle have already done so, and San Francisco and Los Angeles are well on their way.
