I'm writing this because this is something I deeply care about and it won't happen without the support of people like you!!!  Starting a petition isn't something I would normally do, but I was moved to do so because of what our family went through last year.

My husband is a K9 handler with EPSO, his K9 Jinx was killed in the line of duty on April 11, 2022 in Manitou Springs.  He was the 2nd K9 in the state of Colorado to have been killed in the line of duty.  Had Jinx's killer lived, he would have only faced felony animal cruelty charges, which would have been nothing more than a slap on the wrist.  Because of Jinx's warrior heart and bravery, 4 LEOs went home to their families that night!

I want to ensure our K9s are recognized as sworn officers/deputies and NOT looked at as a piece of equipment.  We need harsh punishment for anyone that injures or kills a working K9!  Also, when one of our K9s are injured in the line of duty, we need to make sure they receive immediate care with transport by ambulance, as time is critical and this could save their life.
