Amazing Magic Beans is a preschool for children ages 2 through 5 years inside of All Saints Church located in Sunnyside, NY. Over the past couple of years a young woman who lives in one of the buildings behind the church that overlooks our play area took it upon herself to yell at the children and the teachers, while the children were playing outside. She works nights and sleeps during the day. She feels the children are too loud and should not be permitted to make so much noise outdoors. We started involving the police in this situation in the fall of 2017, because her yelling escalated to name calling and yelling profanities at the children. There have been multiple incidents over the past two years that resulted in the school filing harassment reports with the police. We even sat down with her in a mediation meeting in the spring of 2018 at the police station and came to an agreement that we would send the children outside at a later time and she would not yell at them. She violated this agreement 4 days later and continued her verbal abuse of the children and teaching staff.
On October 10, 2018, she trespassed on school grounds without permission and yelled at the teachers about the children’s noise level. One of the teachers asked her to leave, but she ignored her and continued yelling. When she was approached by school administration, she continued yelling profanities and calling the children “animals”. The police were called, but she was still not arrested.
Throughout the rest of October and November 2018, she called the children "animals", yelled profanities and used other obscene language. She also started filming the children from her window, while they are playing outside.
On December 6, 2018 two plainclothes officers stayed at the school with the children and teachers during outdoor play time. Our neighbor yelled and screamed at the children and she was issued a summons to appear in criminal court on the charge of harassment in the second degree. The case was heard on February 6, 2019 and dismissed for not strong enough legal grounds. On February 7, 2019 she resumed yelling at the children and teaching staff from her window and filming them while they were playing outdoors.
We are now at an impasse. We were finally able to find a legal recourse to solve this issue and yet were not supported by the New York City legal system. Her abuse of the children and teachers and possible endangerment of the children needs to end. We are asking that you sign this petition so Council Member Van Bramer can get involved and use his office's resources to stop her harassment and abuse.
