Preserve the Pacific Grove NOAA Property
The Issue
We seek to have the Lighthouse Avenue NOAA property conveyed to the Pacific Grove community for the public benefit. As our first priority, we request that the property be removed from the imminent GSA sale slated in January 2022.
Creative reuse of the NOAA property, and preservation of its vibrant sea murals by Guggenheim-honored artist Ray Troll, gives Pacific Grove and the Monterey Peninsula a new opportunity to highlight the intersectionality of ocean science, conservation and the arts. We envision a world-renowned oceanographic center for public education focused on the Pacific Ocean at Asilomar State Beach and the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.
In this way, the site can continue its service to oceanography and begin a new mission inspiring scientists, artists, writers, students and visitors to work together to ponder and appreciate the ocean’s beauty, impact, ecology and future.
