We received official word from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources – Historic Preservation Division yesterday that 152 Nassau has been preliminarily determined eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places! This is just one small step in the process, but it is certainly a positive one.
Because its integrity is still in flux (will more of it be demolished or will it be restored?), the building can’t formally be nominated at this time. However, if the owner/developer chooses to keep it and renovate it according to the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties, a National Register listing would qualify such a project for Federal and State tax incentives.
Regardless of the eventual outcome, we’re appreciative of the State’s recognition of the building’s exceptional significance!
