Senator Beall please extend the grant for Willow Glen Parks!

Dear Senator Beall,

We write to you with urgency, as we understand a grant from the State of California that was awarded to the City of San Jose is expiring at the end of the fiscal year. We understand an individual has sued the city of San Jose to save a dilapidated and unsafe train trestle and thus delayed the Three Creeks trail from opening.

The misguided lawsuit has unfortunately delayed the opening of the trail and already drained the city parks department of $450,000 for a historic report even though the structure is not listed as federal, state or city landmark. This means we have $450,000 less to spend on our neighborhood parks including Bramhall and River Glen.

We also understand as a consequence of the lawsuit that the City of San Jose Parks Department will lose an additional $1.2 million State of California grant due to the court delaying the installation of the new bridge.

Both the Lincoln Glen Little League and Willow Glen Little League were hoping to have new snack shacks open in 2015. ( Lincoln Glen has no snack shack currently). However, if the city loses the grant, then the improvements to our neighborhood parks and both Little Leagues may be lost. We understand the city still must pay for the bridge that has already been fabricated and sitting in storage before they can spend money on something else.

We understand you can ask that the grant deadline be extended and ask that you do so before the end of the 2014.  Both our leagues comprise the majority of Willow Glen families who want to see both a trail completed and snack shack facilities to serve people at our neighborhood parks.

Thank You
