While we celebrate this small victory, we are reminded of what we are up against. Organizational hate and violence that refuses to apologize even when they are confronted with the fact that they invited someone advocating mass murder against students at a university campus, even days after 3 Muslim students were brutally gunned down in North Carolina. This is the statement recorded by J Weekly from JCRC: "Roseanne’s remarks garnered a lot of attention from Israel’s detractors, and that’s really counter to our efforts to make sure Jewish students stay safe on campus,“ said JCRC spokesman Jeremy Russell. “We felt that the discourse was moving in a direction that we couldn’t support.” Notice what is missing. No apologies for their extremely poor judgment in inviting Barr in the first place, despite months of Barr's extremist statements. Not a bit of concern for non-Jewish students on college campuses, the actual target of Barr's numerous tweets. What we can learn from this is that we can make a difference. JCRC does not say they canceled the event because they were appalled at Roseanne's remarks, but only because it was garnering attention from those that oppose Israel's racist policies. What an encouragement to keep on speaking up, to demand justice and oppose racism in all its forms. This is the only thing that will keep all safe on our campuses and on our planet.
