Jetstar: drop your deceitful, rip-off $8.50 credit card surcharge for booking online
They're shameful, gouge customers, and it's time they stop. Jetstar’s “booking and service” fee that adds $8.50 one way, $17 return, is one of the most excessive out there – slipped in at the last moment just as you are about to pay online.
What's shocking – it's actually 2670% above what it costs Jetstar to process your card. They’re simply taking advantage of people now and encouraging other companies like hotels, petrol stations, restaurants and who knows, soon your electricity company to do the same!
We should be able to trust companies to do what's fair, not just what's going to line their pockets with the most profit every time – but instead Jetstar have fought to keep credit card surcharges because this quiet rip-off nets them some profit and their owners QANTAS.
Australians pay a ridiculous $800million in card surcharges every year. That's the estimate from Mastercard, who've backed consumers' calls for retailers like Jetstar to be banned from charging these fees.
So far they've got away with it, but you can help change that. A huge consumer backlash right now could finally end this rip-off and the ACCC agrees its not right – the Federal Government are considering banning the surcharges, and Qantas/Jetstar are more concerned about their brand reputation than ever.
In my view, the published price should be the price you pay. No little 'add ons' at the last minute. No excessive fees or surcharges or “booking fees" as they like to call them – it's time they all listen and with your help I know we can end this gouging by retailers in Australia.
Please sign my petition now to force Jetstar to end their unfair credit card surcharges – and encourage the Government to ban them altogether.
