The LGBTQ community in Jersey have made powerful steps towards inclusion and equality in 2014 and 2015 and have been blessed by acceptance from the Jersey community at large; supporting the extension of marriage equality, the formation of the support group Liberate and the hosting of Jersey Pride.

For the Jersey Evening Post to allow the publication on 1 July 2015 of an opinion article by Canon Dr Gavin Ashenden that alleges, among other things, that

- Equal (homosexual) marriages are unstable;

- Lesbian couples order sperm from anonymous donors to have children who are abandoned when they inevitably divorce;

- Homosexuals enter into marriage and relationships for erotic/sexual reasons as opposed to raising children; and

- Those entering into heterosexual marriages to conceive children should label their partnership "natural marriage";

flies in the face of the spirit of equality and acceptance being fostered in the Island.

The article is misleading, bigoted and offensive to LGBTQ Islanders, their families, their friends and all who have fought Island-wide and globally for equality - including those who work for the publisher of the Jersey Evening Post.

We call on the Jersey Evening Post to publicly apologise for allowing this article to be published.
