I was 18 years old when I was convicted of three murders and sentenced to three consecutive life sentences, without the possibility of parole. At the time I was an uneducated, homeless, meth addicted kid, with no moral compass to provide guidance. Majority of my childhood was spent in the juvenile justice system. The night of my crime I was high on meth and I drove a stolen car to the house where I was told by my drug dealer to throw a fire bomb at the window. I had no idea there were three innocent people in that house. Subsequently they died that horrific night due to my selfish, thoughtless actions. I alone am responsible for what happened. Words will never be enough to express the sorrow and sadness that I feel for what I have done. I am truly sorry. I have repented for my crime and will honor my victims and their families. Since my crime 17 years ago, I have worked tirelessly to turn my life around. Every day I try to make amends to my victims and their families and strive to live a life that will keep their legacies alive. I am no longer that scared, immature, 18 year old boy. I’ve attended and graduated from seminary school, I’ve got a GED, and received multiple college degrees. I have also participated in a number of self-help groups and have now become a Drug and Alcohol Specialist I & II Counselor. This will allow me to help others working on their recovery. Helping others has become my passion and I am now the pastor at Tree of Fellowship church at Ironwood State Prison. I mentor young men and teach the fundamentals of living for Jesus Christ. My job in the education department of the prison allows me to tutor and help the other men reach their educational goals. I now live my life to serve and I give all the glory to Jesus Christ, the One who gives me strength and life. Sincerely, Michael Freitas Jr.
