So as well as sharing on Social media, may I please ask that you ask people directly to sign and join the petition? Now here is why

When I started in Telecoms a fair while back, a wise man once said to me "If it doesn't work when it is supposed to, why would we think it will work when it shouldn't?"

What he meant by this was, if you have so many issues with how you intended something to work, how can you expert an emergency scenario to work with the 'back up' methods you put in place. This was while we worked in Telecoms for healthcare, so you can imagine the importance.

So here is one such example from Ofcom, a provider has had all of its consumers unable to dial 999 or 112, due to what you could refer to as a 'typo', and this lasted for 5.5 days. The provider only found out when customers phoned to complain that when they needed it, they could not contact emergency services.

Ofcom readily agree in this scenario that this amount of time is unacceptable, yet, it seems that during a scenario like Themes Flooding or Lancaster Flooding, it is acceptable that we only have 1 hour of emergency services for an incident that can last several days.

So going back to the wise man at the beginning of this post, if VoIP providers are having issues with the standard way telecoms works, how can we rely on them to provide a working service to everyone, let alone vulnerable people during a power outage.

You can read this article here, and if you were not concerned already, it only took Ofcom 9 months to review this issue and conclude something about it, you know, urgency!
