Kyles Story: Living with Borderline Personality Disorder

The Issue

Borderline Personality Disorder is a vastly under funded and under researched area of mental health. There is only a small percentage of people in the UK living with the disorder. It is vitally important that people are made aware of the seriousness and implications of living with such a condition. More funding for research can vastly improve the lives of people. You may or may not have seen Kyles story circling on social media, here is a short snippet of the challenges and failings from the mental health service that Kyle and his family have had to face over the years: 'I've been involved in the services since the age of 11. Throughout the years I've had multiple diagnoses of cyclothymea, bipolar and we've come to a final diagnoses of BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder). Medication does not help my situation because it is not a chemical imbalance, but my actually personality that causes it. When I was referred to the access team, they drugged me up full of medication and kept me sedated for around 3 and a half years. I gained over 6 stone and hated my existence. I was promised health checks every 3 months but received 2 health checks in 4 years. I've been sectioned once, at lakeside ward in Leigh and Hollins park in Warrington. The abuse at Leigh was frightening. Hollins park was no better. My psychiatrist gave up on me a long time ago, he hasn't turned up to my last 2 appointments, instead he's left his understudy who has no knowledge of my condition to see to me. We've had to take desperate measures in the family home to ensure I don't hurt myself/others. We've bought handcuffs to lock me up when I'm bad because of no help. The service is a disgrace and as a family, we are sick of the media portraying mental health patients as vile criminals because they've been driven to desperate measures. It is not us who are the criminals, but the service who turns us down after years of begging. They don't care. We want justice for everyone who's suffering without help' Please sign this petition and help to improve the lives of people living with Borderline Personality Disorder.
