General election now! Tories out!

This government was elected with the smallest popular mandate of any Tory government in history – only 24% of the electorate voted for them. Now, with Cameron’s defeat in the EU referendum, they have lost any shreds of legitimacy they had.

By voting for exit the majority of people in Britain have expressed their anger with everything they have suffered in recent years – low pay, zero hour contracts, benefit cuts, the lack of affordable housing, and public services cut to the bone. Now the trade union movement needs to step up the fight against austerity – including building for a 24-hour general strike. At the same time the trade unions and Jeremy Corbyn should launch a mass campaign to demand the government resigns and a general election is called.
