Create more council housing in Newham, change the allocation policy.

Create more council housing in Newham, change the allocation policy.

The Issue

As you are aware the dire need for social housing is a big issue in England, but the sitiation in the London Borough of Newham is just appauling, see BBC news statistical evidence shows Newham holding the highest number of households waiting for each available home

"Newham, central London, the 588 homes available for social rent are outnumbered by a factor of 44. This leaves 25,729 households chasing these properties."

They have also changed the pilicy of boy and girl to share rooms until 10, this is totally unfair of which you have to rejoin the housing waiting list again, its almost like they are chasing away from even re-applying for what you are 100% entitied to. They have track record of gathering the same paperwork from household which you resend many times only to keep bugging them for a reply. They say no one knows what number they hold when queue position when the ellc website clearly shows the bidders queue position when bidding for new and previous weeks of bidding.

The Allocation policy needs to change, people not on housing benefit and council reductions should get extra priorty. They need to start buying and building homes, hold a referendum of whether actually needing a mayor, with such a large salary. This is one of or the most poorest boroughs and its services just eat away (like issuing parking tickets the most in entire England)  at hard labourers trying to make a living and sustainable future for their children. The Allocation policy right now is as follows:  who is prioritised when shortlisting
Bids will be ranked as follows:

1st members of the armed forces.

2nd Additional preference group such as emergency.

3rd urgent decants.

4th under-occupation transfers and transfer from adapted properties.

5th less urgent decants.

6th Priority homeseeker or transfer in employment.

7th Priority homeseeker and transfer.

8th priority homeseeker and transfer with reduced priority.

9th homeseeker.

10th homeseeker with reduced priority.

They need to also have a good system in place of not just giving the homeless priority but those families who are in their care i.e. in council homes but are living in cramped over populated homes. As landlords they should be acountable for numbers and over crowding within their own properties.

We keep hearing how bad housing is in Newham. It isn't fair enough is enough.

This is newham where people "live, work and stay unhappy" due to housing problems, no doubt when the home is happy so is the society.

We residents of Newham want CHANGE and not a memo.
