Release Funds for Missouri's Public Libraries

Release Funds for Missouri's Public Libraries
The Issue
This year the Governor of Missouri is withholding money that was budgeted for public libraries serving populations over 40,000. Daniel Boone Regional Library’s portion amounts to over $120,000. Some of this money would have been used to offset the cost of our Internet connections and state-wide databases (REAL) and some is for state aid to public libraries, which pays for books and materials. We appreciate the governor’s support of libraries in the past, but if these funds are not released, the library may not be able to provide as many new books and databases. Currently, we have reduced the materials budget and increased the expenditures for Internet connections by the amount withheld by the Governor until we find out if the funds will be released. If you would like to urge the governor to release funds needed by public libraries, please join others across the state and sign our online petition.
You may also consider writing to the Governor. Send your letters to the following address:
Office of Governor Jay Nixon
P. O. Box 720
Jefferson City, MO 65102
You can call the Governor at the following number:
573-751-3222
Finally, you can go to the Governor's website and fill out the contact form.
Thank you for helping let the governor know that these funds are important to the library users in our area and across Missouri.
