Introduce a Controlled Parking Zone in the roads surrounding the Myatts Field Park.

Residents in Vassall Ward are unable to park their vehicles during working hours, miss deliveries and workmen, and are suffering from an increase in congestion, pollution and danger caused by the high volume of commuter and displaced parking. The Council's own parking survey shows 700 more cars are parked in the Ward on a weekday vs a weekend.

The situation is causing significant danger for both cars and pedestrians particularly around Myatts Field Park. Cars are parked over dropped kerbs restricting access for both wheelchair and pushchair users. Cars are parked over junctions causing obstructions in the road. Vehicles are abandoned in poor condition.

The area is surrounded by Controlled Parking Zones from Southwark (CPZ Z covers Flodden and Knatchbull Roads) and Lambeth (CPZ A stops at Carew Street, KR stops north of Brixton Road). We therefore suffer a high volume of "displaced" parking, as well as commuter parking due to our proximity to the tube and local workplaces.

The Council acknowledges there is a problem but says there is no budget, despite Lambeth recording a significant surplus from parking revenues and receiving money from TfL to help deliver the Mayor's Transport strategy (this was spent on the NEP project). Lambeth has found money to extend a CPZ in Herne Hill, as well as to plan a consultation on traffic around Vassall Ward including a proposal to close Loughborough Road to through-traffic. However, we are repeatedly told there is no money for a project in our area.

The situation is at crisis point and local residents are not willing to wait several more years for a consultation.
