Time and time again, we hear about cases of animal cruelty and neglect. We see the stories in the news and cringe at the idea of what the animal has gone through at the hands of a human being. We think, 'Surely that person will be punished accordingly!'

Well, the sad truth is that the punishment does Not fit the crimes and often there is no punishment at all. I learned recently that the threshold for felony animal cruelty is very high and, therefore, much abuse is only worthy of a small fine. (and that's if there is proof)

Although many abusers may not be inclined to stop their violence against animals, it would certainly be a step in the right direction to toughen the laws and hold abusers accountable for their atrocities. Better laws can be a deterrent!

I remember a quote from many years ago - 'A Dog Will Lick Your Hand Between Blows'. - Please help these innocent creatures who need us as their voice!
