Due to recent events that have taken place at and outside the hand's of the Fitchburg Animal Shelter, Mayor Wong and The State have decided to close the door's to the shelter. Handling this situation in this manner puts our neighborhoods, the well being of our city's animal's and overcrowding of fellow local animal organizations at risk. By not having accessible local grounds & refusing care and custody of Fitchburg's future animal's in need, we as volunteers, paid staff & resident's of the city are not able to be proactive and engage in our duties as citizen's to help protect our city's animals in a efficient manner. 

Rather than just abandon the shelter's current animal's currently putting them at risk of euthanesia and making the future seem hopeless for lost or abandon pet's, I ask you join me to work together to correct the issues that brought the state to this decision. What are the critical issues here, can they be corrected? Can educational courses and safety training be implemented for the Fitchburg Animal Shelter's staff and volunteers? Can some sort of mediation amongst fellow city employees, whom care for the city's animals, be introduced when miscommunications and disagreement's arise? Can staff ratio's be increased or a second set of eyes be available during certain critical times where tough decision making may be warranted? What can we as a tight knit city do to work together to continue to maintain a facility on Fitchburg grounds that can continue to reunite families with their lost pets, rehabilate animals to become adoptable and find their forever family and most importantly to let the FAS staff & volunteers be the ones who provide consistency, patience, love, training and countless efforts of the unique animal's of our city, that all too often get labeled due to their breeds! The staff and volunteers at Fitchburg Animal Shelter don't judge, they just do what they do best and put the animal's needs first and establish a plan that suits each individual dog and work towards a common goal for each of them. 

By signing this petition, we voice our opinion's together and become a voice for each of our four legged friend's at The Fitchburg Animal Shelter, who cannot be heard now or in the future.
