Today was the 1st day that Jefferson Parish was accepting applications to Ruppel Academie Francaise.
They are only accepting applications for the classrooms that they didn’t already fill with the kids that were placed on Waitlists for other schools in October, well before this whole fiasco started.
In sort, only 1st & 2nd.
PreK, K & 2nd have been filled.
None of these seats K seats were even offered, or set aside so we had an opportunity to test, to the 26 Kids that applied for French Immersion in February.
As one of the parents of a current FI student sat in the waiting room to submit and application, she asked other parents if they chose this school because of the French. The answer was the same, “no it’s an Advanced Study School that has openings”- with the added look as if she had 6 heads, because honestly how many of these people care about French? They didn’t show up back in February to submit an application for FI during the Magnet application process.
Once again frustrated, and now confused by the wording of the “Ruppel Academy PK-8 Discussion” document (see previous post for link to doc) I decided to sit down with an Administrator for ASA.
They are saying out right that it is NOT French Immersion and NOT ASA even though they have the same ASA curriculum. But in the 1st paragraph it states “French Immersion candidates shall be given special admission consideration as determined by the Superintendent and approved by the board.”
Because Ruppel is NOT a FI would they be speaking about 26 kids that they turned down? I asked and was not given a clear answer because there is not much she could do other than relay the messages.
During the meeting I did find out that the Parish will be opening a second round for the Magnet schools to fill the remaining seats... which FI is under and how we started this to begin with.
