Keep West Elementary in the Capital City School District

Keep West Elementary in the Capital City School District
The Issue
The JCPS Board of Education will soon vote on a redistricting scenario. Three of the four redistricting scenarios will negatively affect students from West Elementary School.
- Proposed Redistricting Scenario 1 & 2 - West students will not go to the same middle/high school as their friends. This will be a 70/30 or 75/25 split. These scenarios will have a negative social/developmental impact on kids.
- Proposed Redistricting Scenario 3 - West students will not go to the same middle/high school as their older siblings. This scenario will have a negative impact on families.
- Proposed Redistricting Scenario 4 - All West students will feed into the existing middle/high schools they currently feed into.
***Scenario 4 has the best social impact on students. West students will not have to break bonds with existing friends when they go to middle/high school.
***Scenario 4 will also promote the well being of families with other children already in secondary school. This scenario will keep all students in the same family at the same secondary schools.
I have five kids in JCPS—two at Capital City, one at TJMS, and two at West Elementary. If the first, second, or third scenario is chosen, my kids will be separated from their existing friends and/or their current schools entirely. Even if my secondary students were grandfathered in, my upcoming elementary students would be at different schools, causing extra strain on our ability to allow our kids to participate in activities.
By signing this petition you are agreeing that scenario 4 is the only suitable scenario for West School families.
