The Issue

Ontario Parks firewood has been sold 'wet' (improperly cured) to park visitors for many, many years.  In many Ontario parks, firewood cannot be brought in from elsewhere and is the only source of firewood available to park visitors (ie. monopoly on the sale of firewood).  Not only does this situation rip off consumers, it also has a significant impact on the environment as consumers either ignore the import rules or turn to cutting down live trees to cook and/or stay warm.
It is understood that the companies contracted to provide wood are selling it to the province by the ton.  It is no surprise then that these companies are choosing not to properly cure the wood (ie. selling wet wood) so that they can increase their profits.   The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks must hold these companies accountable and ensure that consumers and the environment are protected.
