Trans kids are often being made uncomfortable in their classes as they are addressed by a name they don't identify with during attendance and in classes, as well as by teachers who refuse to refer to them by anything but their birth name. This is alienating and discouraging, and can be mentally and physically damaging to trans people and their friends and families. Students should be able to choose how their teachers see their names and pronouns before meeting them, so as to avoid confusion and discomfort, especially for the presence of substitute teachers. We can change powerschool names and student emails to help all students be at their utmost comfort, and thus optimize their learning experience.
