The Jeep Cherokee in North America had only one generation, the 1984-2001 XJ. Jeep has tried to replace it either directly or indirectly with vehicles like the Grand Cherokee, Liberty, Commander, and Patriot, but there is only one XJ Jeep Cherokee, considered by many owners and former owners to be the perfect Jeep and the perfect vehicle. We, those who love the XJ, respectfully ask that the name of that historic vehicle not be dishonored by Jeep giving it to the new 2014 replacement for the Liberty, what Jeep has been calling for the past few days the "2014 Jeep Cherokee." Please, do not rob the XJ of its rightful place in history. Call it the 2014 Jeep Liberty. The 2014 Jeep Juke or 2014 Jeep Aztek even. But not the 2014 Jeep Cherokee.
