Period poverty is a growing issue in Scotland, with at least 1 in 5 women being forced to turn to rags or cloth as an alternative to sanitary products. This is not only completely unacceptable but also extremely unhygienic, particularly for those who live in poverty or are homeless.

The Scottish MSP who introduced the bill, Monica Lennon, said, ''This is another great step forward in the campaign against period poverty. Access to period products should be a right, regardless of your income, which is why I am moving ahead with plans for legislation to introduce a universal system of free access to period products for everyone in Scotland.''

This bill would promote a culture of acceptance surrounding menstruation and help to break down barriers for those facing period poverty, including those in the trans/non binary community. At the end of the day, no young person should be forced to miss school because of their period and currently this is the case. In a class of 30 pupils, it is thought that at least one person will miss school due to being unable to afford period products.

We simply cannot claim to be a country that promotes fairness, equality and dignity if we are leaving countless people without adequate access to affordable and high quality sanitary products.

Please sign this petition to urge the Scottish Government to support the Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) Bill and help to ensure Scotland is an equal and period positive nation.
