The U.S. Department of States has published its annual report on Spain on its website under the "2022 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices", which in several points paints a clear picture of the repressive measures of the Spanish state against the national minority of the Catalans and names a number of abuses.
For the establishment of the Catalan Republic in accordance with the mandate of 1 October 2017 and the enforcement of the Catalan Parliament's decision of 27 October 2017, which is legal under international law, and Catalonia's valid declaration of independence from Spain, the support of the U.S. as the Western hegemonic power is of particular importance. So far, the U.S. has kept a low profile on this issue. However, this year's report of the U.S. Department of States indicates to those in the know that in the U.S.A. support for the Catalan nation and its foundation as a state is being seriously considered.
In fact, an independent Republic of Catalonia would be beneficial to U.S. interests in Europe in many ways. Moreover, it cannot be in the interest of the U.S. to side with the likely loser in this conflict, the Kingdom of Spain. This and previous reports are already preparing the U.S. public for future U.S. support of the Catalan Republic.
