Cyclists Need to Pay Registration

The issue

In recent times, the road rules have been changed to allow Cyclists the ride on roads and on footpaths.

In certain circumstances this has proved dangerous to both cyclists and motorists as both parties do not wish to share the road with the other.

It also becomes quite a predicament when, should a motorist do something dangerous or untoward around a cyclist, all the cyclist has to do is take a quick glance at the car's registration number and maybe get some other defining features of the vehicle to report them.

However, should a cyclist break the road rules, or do something dangerous or untoward around a motorist or footpath user, we have no way to identify them to aid in a report, all we can do is say "yeah that person on a black bike, with a lycra clad backside!"

Doesn't really help identify them does it! This petition is being started to make our government understand that cyclists need to have some form of registration on their bikes for such situations.

If the cyclist already owns a car, perhaps they can have the cars registration also on the bike for a small additional fee on their car rego renewal. Otherwise they should have to register their bike just like every other road user. Perhaps not quite at the same cost as a car or motorbike as they would probably have less wear and tear on our roads and don't emit fumes, but a registration fee all the same.
