Broughton for Change's Why Wake Walks March

The Issue

This march is being held so that students from schools in the Downtown Raleigh area can make their voices heard about issues relating to gun violence and school safety.

In conjunction with the group Why Wake Walks, Broughton students are organizing this march from Fred Fletcher Park (across the street from Broughton) to Halifax Mall at 3:00pm on Friday, April 20th. Once we are at Halifax Mall, we will participate in the Why Wake Walks rally, beginning at 4:00pm. All students and adults passionate about this cause are invited, whether or not they connected to Broughton or another Wake County School.

Enough is Enough. The shooting in Parkland was a catalyst, but these issues have plagued our communities - as well as communities such as those in Chicago and LA - and our nation for far too long. As students, we demand that legislators on the local, state, and national level take action to ensure that we are safe in school. We recognize that there isn't a single, easy solution to this problem, but we believe that common sense gun reform and increased funding for mental health professionals are desperately needed, and we call on our legislators and other political leaders to offer more than "thoughts and prayers" and effect meaningful change.
