Stop letting drunk and reckless people walk FREE after taking someone’s life. If someone has crashed or caused an accident and has been charged with dui and a fatality has occurred then they should be HELD immediately in prison , WITHOUT BAIL . They should be held pending investigation or until everything is in place for a trial. There is no reason someone should be able to go home and sleep in their comfy bed the same night of taking someone’s innocent life from them. Drinking and driving is a choice , a death from dui is one hundred percent preventable. The same night they make that choice to drive after drinking is the same night they should have to suffer the consequences. Not a week later , not a month later , not a year later. THAT NIGHT.  Why should a family who has just lost their 8 year old son have to suffer more than they already are? Why would they have to wonder every single day why their child isn’t with them anymore but the person who did it is at home relaxing with his family until the state can build a case. Why should the guy who stole a child’s life get to go home to his mother but the child who was killed couldn’t go home to his? Why should the family have to wait for toxicology or crash reconstruction that takes a long time, this entire time waiting in agony while the killer still sits down and has dinner with his family every night. The drunk drivers life has not been altered at all while the victims family has to suffer every minute of everyday wishing that their little boy was still here . If you take a life you should be given life in prison . A killing is a killing no matter how it happens , had this man not crashed into my child, my child would still be here. The blood is on his hands and he is free, how can a state allow someone to kill a child and be free almost 2 months later . The same way the family has to suffer waiting for the state to build the case the killer should be suffering in jail awaiting as well. The Vehicular Manslaughter charge is not a good enough penalty for people who take others lives because of their decisions behind the wheel . It could be dui , reckless driving  , speeding , falling asleep , texting , ANYTHING ! ITS STILL MURDER, the person still stole someone’s life that would still be alive if they didn’t do what they did behind the wheel .  We need to crack down harder on these laws regarding death by someone else’s choices in a vehicle ! It would make a difference if the penalties were harder on people that do other things other then drive when they are in their cars .
