At a time when north India's pollution levels are at an all time high and toxic gases in air are at 90 times the limit set by World Health organization, everyone is busy playing blame games. And farmers from Punjab are emerging as major culprits. Though they have their own set of problems in doing it, and it is an altogether a different issue to be tackled objectively by providing them necessary means and listening to their side of story. But at a time, when the visibility levels are at 200 meters, it is hard to see those issues. Punjab is the home and birthplace of the vibrant and progressive Sikh community. I being a member of the same community feel that rather than just indulging in counter blame game, it's our responsibility to tell everyone that we are doing our bit and we are the ones to always take strong initiatives. Our Gurus have taught to live us with perfect symphony with the nature. Gurbani guides us in this direction and so does the history of great Guru sahibs like Guru Har Rai Sahib Ji's endeavor of planting various bags ie gardens. We know that today's situation is a direct result of paddy burning aggravated by crackers of Diwali. The first part is something to be tackled at the administration level. As a bright start and as an exemplary act let's unite and tell Akal Takht Jathedar Sahib and SGPC chief that Sikh sangat is definitely willing to do away with fireworks at Harmandir Sahib and to revert back to the ancient tradition of only lighting and no fireworks. There is no reference of Baba Budha ji or other Sikhs doing fireworks at Harmandir Sahib on the fateful return of Guru Hargobind Sahib. Only lighting the earthen lamps is recorded. So doing away with fireworks will in no way amount to change in ancient traditions. Rather it will be going back to the ancient traditions and doing our bit for the nature of the Almighty Akal Purakh. It's a request to Jathedar Sahib and SGPC chief to take this into consideration and announce that we'll be going back to our ancient traditions and will do away with at Harmandir Sahib from next Diwali. The Sikh sangat is in full support of this.
