News just broke that it is official that the Medicine Hat hospital is closing the maternity clinic at the end of October. Under the new funding it is not worth it for our physicians to continue.

This is outrageous and completely unacceptable. Most general physicians are not able to cover prenatal care after 20 weeks. Where does that leave us women to turn to in a city with a shortage of doctors?

It should not be on the physicians pockets to run this clinic, as it has been funded for the last 19 years. As someone who has used this service twice for both of my children I know how needed this service is for Medicine Hat and the surrounding area.

It is absolutely essential that Medicine Hat has a maternity clinic for mothers and babies to go to for their prenatal care. 

Do not let our city go backwards. Let Jason Kenney, Tyler Shandro, Michela Glasgo, Drew Barnes know that closing our maternity clinic is not in the best interest of the people and families of Medicine Hat. Do not let our rights to proper health care for mothers and children be taken away. We must avoid taking a huge step backwards for both women and children.
