I used to love going to the zoo to see the animals that I could not see every day, but now I know it hurts the animals and no amount of suffering is worth my enjoyment. Animals deserve to live their lives peacefully in their own habitats without contact with humans because that is what's best for them emotionally and physically. Animals are treated carelessly because zookeepers know that if they die, they can just get a new animal. These animals die off mainly because of physical exhaustion and mental problems caused by forced captivity. Another way they die is due to humans. If there’s overcapacity in a zoo, healthy animals are killed in order to make space for other ones. 75% of animals captured and forced into captivity die within the first 20 months (mainly because of depression or other mental problems). Animals are wild and should not be forced into captivity especially if there’s not a reason to. There are a number of zoos that are specifically for endangered animals or animals that need help, but the common zoo takes perfectly healthy, happy animals and forces them into cages. It is cruel to force animals into captivity and by signing this petition you can help make a change in your community.
