Today, I would like to share the story of Marine Corps Veteran, Jose Gerena. Jose lost his life during a no knock warrant raid on May 5, 2011. The Pima County Sheriff's Office conducted a raid in suspicion of marijuana trafficking. After a returning from a 12 hour overnight shift, Jose's wife and child woke up Jose because there was a loud noise outside that frightened them. Jose instructed them to hide, fearing an intruder was outside. Jose grabbed his legally owned AR-15, and looked outside to look for the intruders. The police, upon seeing Jose armed, shot 71 times into the house. Jose was struck 22 times. His wife called an ambulance, but the police denied medical services for 1 hour and 14 minutes in order to secure the area. No drugs were found at the residence, and afterwards, Pima County Sheriff's Office explained Jose's brother was the one suspected of the crime. A Marine Veteran died defending his home as his wife and child hid in fear. No one went to jail for this. Please share if you have not. We must end the practice of No Knock Warrants in Colorado. It killed Breonna Taylor. It killed Ismael Mena. It killed Jose Gerena. It got Tracy Ingle locked up for 18 years. In all of the cases, zero evidence of drugs were found at ANY of the sites. We have hit 1500 signs in under three days time, and are making great progress. Try and share this and get it in front of as many people as possible. Together we can end this practice and make sure in Colorado, we never hear of another tragedy like these.
