Molly Obert started this petition to Representative Jared Polis

In 2013, the people of Fremont County demanded that their community shelter stop needlessly killing almost half of the animals that came into their care. This dedicated movement brought about much needed change, and although the Board of Directors remained the same, the executive director was charged with animal cruelty, and replaced. Today, the animals at Humane Society of Fremont County once again need your voice. Over the past 5 years, the pendulum swung from one extreme to the other, and both extremes cause suffering. The animals at HSFC are not receiving timely or proper medical treatment, socialization or enrichment and they are not subject to quality of life consideration. The current director has publicly taken responsibility for numerous PACFA violations, including using expired euthanasia medication on the public’s animals. As of now, there is no compassion for the animals, and the current executive director seems to be motivated more by praise from a small, extremist community than by doing right by the animals in his care. The current board structure creates little accountability for the ED. The board should be setting all strategy, be fiduciaries, and coach/evaluate the ED.

I have added my name to this petition because I believe the animals and community of Fremont County deserve better. I will support a shelter that gives every healthy animal a chance at adoption, provides timely and adequate medical care, and recognizes the need for quality of life consideration. I will support a new competent and compassionate management team that builds partnerships and brings support and resources to Fremont County. I will support an organization with an effective BOD who prioritize animal welfare. This board should have no less than 9 members who are involved in the community, demand transparency from operations to financial statements on a monthly basis, and would make these available for the entire community. The executive director and the board of directors need to be held accountable, and change needs to come for the animals at HSFC.
