In Japan, whales are being slaughtered. In 2019, 313 whales were killed, and the year before 640 whales were killed. Japan maintains that annual whaling is sustainable and necessary for scientific study and management of whale stocks, though the Antarctic minke whale populations have declined since the beginning of the JARPA program and those whales killed have shown increasing signs of stress. Japan isn't the only spot where whaling occurs but it is the main source of whaling.

Plankton provide an estimated 80% of the oxygen on  earth. What does that have to do with whales? Well, plankton need to be fed, their main source of food is from iron. And when whales surface for oxygen they poop, nasty right? Their poop is high in iron which feeds the plankton. However when people kill whales, that makes for less and less food for the plankton. Well we have trees don't we? Those are being killed too, and they produce roughly 1/3 of the earth's oxygen, when marine plants produce roughly 70% of the oxygen on earth. The oxygen humans and most of the living creatures on earth need to survive. 

If we can make an impact on Japan's government to stop whaling, we can make the earth a better and safer place for whales and humans. Whales should be allowed to feel safe in the own ocean. How would you feel if you and your family were murdered, and laid out on your front lawn for everyone to see? This is what happens with whales every year. Whales are murdered and found on beaches, sometimes they are filled with plastic. 

Stop whaling in Japan!
