"After fierce debate and numerous setbacks, Japan has enacted controversial amendments to the immigration and refugee law enabling the government to deport repeat refugee applicants back to their countries of origin." - The Japan Times, June 10, 2023.
Only about 200 out of around 3500 applicants were accepted. Immigrants without permanent residency are not legally permitted to work, or to travel outside their area of residence.
With Japan's aging population, surely if would be of benefit to allow immigrants to work as elderly carers?
