Comfort Women Action for Redress and Education
25 gen 2022

The Korean survivors are fighting until the end for justice.  More than rallies or statues, for the past thirty years, they have asked for Japan to unequivocally admit its crimes and to teach history correctly.

Grandma Lee Yong-soo has handwritten a letter to President Moon asking that he keep his word about a survivor-centered resolution to the "comfort women" issue because Japan's ongoing distortion of history is unacceptable.

Together with Grandma Lee, Lee Ok-seon (from Busan), Lee Ok-seon (from Sokrisan), Park Ok-seon, and Kang Il-chul signed statements of support for a definitive resolution under the UN Convention Against Torture.  Grandma Park Pilgeun from Pohang, South Gyeongsang, also signed a statement of support.

These statements were delivered to President Moon yesterday, since he has failed to take action on Grandma Lee's proposals for resolution under the ICJ and/or CAT.

Contrary to media reports today, Moon's administration also has not discussed with Grandma Lee or other survivors about how it plans to deal with funds from the foundation created under the December 2015 announcement, which was declared without the survivors' knowledge or prior approval.

If President Moon does not respond to these statements, Grandma Lee plans to rally in front of the Blue House next month. Without the survivors' agreement, there can be no resolution to this issue.
