Comfort Women Action for Redress and Education
Dec 11, 2021

In case you missed our events at Oxford this week with the Institute of Digital Archaeology (IDA), the sessions were recorded and available online:

[1] Interview with Lee Yong-soo

[2] Live Q&A with Director Nancy Roberts and Violet Michel of the IDA

[3] Panel discussion with:

  • Channel 4's Krishnan Guru-Murthy;
  • Sunday Times' journalist and author Christina Lamb, who has written extensively on the issue of conflict-related sexual violence, which is on the rise;
  • Lecturer Maki Kimura of University College London, who has studied and analyzed the testimonies of "comfort women" survivors as oral history;
  • moderated by our esteemed adviser Alexis Dudden (History of Japan and South Korea, University of Connecticut).

We also remembered Isabelita Vinuya (Lola Lita), the leader of the Malaya Lolas who passed away two weeks ago. Read a remembrance to Lola Lita written by volunteer Summer in the Philippines.

Thank you for supporting Grandma Lee Yong-soo and the "comfort women."  Their struggle is emblematic of the ongoing campaign to prevent and bring justice for the use of sexual and gender-based violence as a weapon of war against communities, cultures, and history around the world today.
