Hi my name is Chandra J Short I am a single mom of one Son who is 14 years old in the 9th grade in Robeson County. I have recently been informed that as soon as 2017, our schools maybe closing.30 schools were on this list to close mostly in areas that are low income small communities. 13 schools and 1 career center would be the replacement, Our school will be consolidating grades pre-k-8 grades housing 1000 students for each school. We would not own our schools like we currently do we would lease them from a private business owner who knows nothing about education or what our children need, nor did SfL+a ARCHITECTS CEO/PRESIDENT ROBERT W FERRIS see the need to envolve or inform us the Parents or a Community about the proposal that was being proposed. No research was done in Robeson County to identify our needs. We have no knowledge as to where the schools would be located because they haven't done any research on that yet but Robert Fessis informes us we should sign the the pre agreement contract because a new building with so much technology would help our children's proformance by 20% just by entering the facility. This statement alone proves that Big business has no place in schools! CLOSING OUR SCHOOLS WOULD CAUSE THESE SMALL TOWNS TO LOOSE THERE IDENTITY, BUSINESS WOULD BE AFFECTED IF OUR SCHOOLS CLOSE FUNDING FOR OUR COMMUNITIES WOULD CEASE TO EXIST BUSING OUR CHILDREN OUT OF THE COMMUNITY WOULD MAKE IT DIFFICULT FOR PARENTS WHO DON'T HAVE TRANSPORTATION TO GET TO THEIR CHILDREN IN CASE OF EMERGENCY. ALSO OUR CHILDREN WOULD HAVE TO WAKE UP AT 4AM IN THE MORNING IN WINTER MONTHS IT WOULD STILL BE DARK AS THEY WAIT OUT AT THE ROAD FOR THE BUS TO COME. LAST BUT DEFINITELY NOT LEAST JOBS WOULD BE LOST, BECAUSE THE PROPOSAL ONLY SHOWS HIRING 1 EXTRA PERSON TO WORK IN THE CAFERTERIA. WE ASK THAT YOU SUPPORT US IN OUR FIGHT AGAINST REJECTING SENATE BILL 554 THE RELOCATING AN CLOSING OF OUR SCHOOLS AN ALLOWING PRIVATE BUSINESS CAPITALIST TO CONTROL OUR SCHOOLS SYSTEM.THANKS SO MUCH IN ADVANCE!!!!
