With the COVID-19 pandemic, students have been forced to resort to online instruction while having to pay for normal tuition.

This happens at not just our campus (CSULB) but most of the California State University campuses as well as the University of California campuses. It’s unfair that students are forced to pay the same tuition especially while being online.

As students we understand the severity of COVID-19 and how it’s impacted our lives and our loved ones. However, many of us do not have the privilege of being able to afford a university education without taking out loans. With that being said, it is imperative that we lower tuition costs for students as we have no choice but to learn from home. We understand the severity but shouldn’t have to be paying for an education that is supposed to be “in person.”

Our goal is to lower tuition so that we can afford to continue to keep our education. With COVID so many students have been forced to pick up 2 different jobs all while being a student. If the university doesn’t want to lower tuition, the least they could do is help the students financially be able to pay for their education. On campus jobs only do so much.

We are not asking for handouts, we’re asking for a change. Our student body doesn’t deserve to have to pay for something we’re not receiving. This doesn’t just mean us at CSULB but student bodies across the CSU, UC, public and private school systems.
