Allow Memphis Pets Alive to photograph animals before their review date to help reunite them with their owners and adopt out others!

The Issue

Memphis Animal Services does not have the best track record when it comes to keeping paperwork straight and ensuring the safety of animals that have been either adopted or claimed by owners. Several of these cases have ended with the dogs in question being mistakenly euthanized. A group called Memphis Pets Alive has been photographing animals as they come into the shelter and spreading the photos on social media in an effort to help reunite lost pets with their owners and find fosters or permanent homes for strays and those surrendered by owners. As of May 13, 2014, MAS has decided this will no longer be allowed until the 72 hour hold has passed. This means that many pets that are taken to the shelter could be euthanized before having the chance to be identified by their owners or get a chance at being adopted or placed with a rescue group as some are euthanized within hours of being brought in! Isn't the very purpose of an animal shelter to reunite lost pets with their owners and give strays the chance at finding a family with a forever home? Please sign this petition to allow the volunteers of Memphis Pets Alive and other rescue groups to continue to help in an area where the shelter falls very short! Tell MAS that allowing pets to be photographed BEFORE the hold time is up is the only way to reunite lost pets with their owners, find homes for the homeless and avoid unnecessary euthanizations!
