It is moments like these, which puts this film at the top of my 2015 list. Out of the two (yes only two!) Mission Impossible films I have seen so far, these being Rogue Nation and Ghost Protocol, this was definitely the stand-out. Tom Cruise is at his all-time best, now making a wise career choice by hanging from the side of planes and even using his own (seriously insane) upper body strength to lift himself up a vertical pole to escape being tied to it. The action sequences in this film are terrific, ranging from opera staged fights to motorcycle stunts. The fact that the majority of these are real and done by Tom himself (seriously, someone needs to take a look at this guy, I think he might be mad), adds to the thrill and proves you can still be cool at 53. This time around, the team must tackle its most impossible mission yet in an attempt to eradicate the Syndicate, a rogue organisation as skilled as them, committed to destroying the IMF.A combination of stellar stuntwork, jokes and action, the latest installment in the popular spy franchise provides something for everyone. Talking of stunts, there are plenty here, including the (now probably famous) plane hanging scene, the epic motorcycle and car craziness that ensues, and explosions galore. Adding to that, the fact there is little to no CGI used makes the action sequences even more brilliant. A new ‘team member’ comes in the form of Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson) as a mysterious but deadly addition who seems to play a bit of both sides. She is a welcome recruit, reminding us that the series can still cause chaos when it needs to.
