The Superintendent and School Board Members of the Madison (Wisconsin) Metropolitan School District should not expel Dereian Brown. Dereian is a 6th grader at Cherokee Heights Middle School who allegedly brought a BB gun to school. He already served a one-month suspension for his alleged misconduct even though no one saw Dereian with a weapon, no one was threatened or harmed, no one recovered a weapon, and no one called the police. Now the district is seeking to expel Dereian, a sweet, twelve year-old, African-American boy with no prior disciplinary marks on his record.  Wisconsin state law does not mandate expulsion in this situation; however, the district is choosing to pursue it. Please sign this petition and join the community members who want to prevent Dereian's expulsion.
