Let's make this a debate about bias - petition update

The principle of this petition is simple - fairness. Many of us agree, the BBC has lost touch with its impartiality. What we would like is balanced news, presented in a fair manner, that gives voice to all sides of the argument and for everyone involved to be dealt with fairly. There is room in the BBC for opinion pieces and as long as all opinions get equal airtime, that would be a fair outcome. Perhaps what is needed is a scorecard, much like the BBC did recently when they reviewed the achievements of the Conservative party manifesto, where the amount of airtime provided to different political views is measured. For instance the political stance of guests invited to Question Time could be one of the metrics. I am not a campaigner or a writer, so forgive me for my shortcomings, I found the following statement on bias in the media resonated with my thoughts: "I don't think it's particular to Kuenssberg. Andrew Marr and Nick Robinson and the rest are every bit as bad. And I don't think it's particular to Corbyn. Political staff across the mainstream channels work from the same assumptions: (a) that the centre and right wing are where common sense lies - so balance, for them, is exercised between the Labour right, the Tories and the UK Independence Party. They feel licensed to attack the left because it lies outside this consensus. They also feed off the press which now seems almost universally right wing - some of the nastiest anti-Corbyn writing has been in the Independent and the I (Rentoul and Grice) and the Guardian (Freedland et al) and (b) that politics is essentially a spectator sport focused on personalities, rather than issues. " University Lecturer I love the BBC, along with the NHS and the Welfare State it makes me proud to be British. The diverse programming is incredible and unmatched anywhere else in the world. However, that does not mean that we should not expect higher standards, especially with regards to the news. Some people have commented to me that we are lucky to have the BBC and I agree. But just because it is perhaps one of the better news services in the world does not mean that it cannot be even better. There have been many comments left and I simply do not have the time to moderate them. I, like all of you I am sure, am totally opposed to the use of any abhorrent language directed at anyone. Online abuse and bullying is a sad indictment of our society and needless to say a waste of the phenomenal resource that social media is and can be.
