Does the BBC has a liberal, left-wing bias?

Amongst the right wing press and amongst many politicians the BBC is often accused of having a liberal, left-wing bias.
In August 2013, the Daily Telegraph reported a new study had found that the BBC “exhibits a left-of-centre bias in both the amount of coverage it gives to different opinions and the way in which these voices are represented”. Other critics have accused the BBC of having a pro-EU and anti-business slant. But how true are these accusations and what does the evidence suggest about the range of views the corporation features in its news output?
A group of colleagues at Cardiff University, completed a major content analysis of BBC coverage. This research was funded by the BBC Trust as part of an ongoing series of studies examining the impartiality of its reporting in areas such as regional news, the Israel-Palestine conflict, the Arab Spring, business and science.

Thanks for getting involved.
To be clear I do not want to get rid of the BBC. I love the BBC, along with the NHS and the Welfare State it makes me proud to be British. The diverse programming is phenomenal. OK there is probably a bit too much content aimed at the 'Daily Mail' set but when you consider what you get across all the channels, stations and on the internet, it is good value for money.
However, that does not mean that we should not hold it to scrutiny or expect higher standards. Especially with regards to the News.
A tightly defined definition of what is considered the centre of politics has been drawn up and it serves the Westminster village and corporations and alas this is not always what best serves the Public.
We need to shine a spotlight on this so that we can set new standards and lead the way in balanced and unbiased news reporting.
Those who cannot contain their opinions should be allowed a voice - just not as head of News or as Political Editors.
Thank you once again.
