Hold Bolsonaro accountable for the future of the Amazon rainforest!
Le problème
We have all seen the devastating images of the Amazon rainforest over the past few days. Somehow, this tragedy managed to stay silent for over two weeks before we finally started knowing what was happening in the very lungs of our Planet Earth.
What is happening right now is heartbreaking, and it makes me sad and angry - feelings which I’m pretty sure we’re all familiar with right now. The Brasilian government has failed to protect one of the earth’s treasures that keeps us alive as a species. Let’s hold Bolsonaro and his policies accountable so as to never repeat such a misstep again and to restore what has been lost since he took office as president back in January.
We are all angry and want answers. Now let’s channel this anger into something positive for us to turn this tragedy into systematic chance and our sadness into action.
Dear Bolsonaro, the world is watching you.
This petition is asking you and your government to:
- drop dumb-founded allegations that these fires were started by environmental NGOs
- change your policies regarding the Amazon rainforest and cease its exploitation for economic gain at the detriment of our environment
- stop the inaction and start releasing mobilisation and budget to stop these fires. We don’t have time to wait.
- start condemning deforestation, cease any further intentional fires and protect the safety of Indigenous people and the ecosystem in the rainforest
- revise Brasilian environmental legislation in favour of a sustainable future
- give back the funding to NGOs to protect the Amazon
- vow to plant back as many trees as were lost in the rainforest since the start of your presidency back in January, and do so within the next 12 months
This petition is also asking other governments around the world to stop being silent and passive about this, and act now! This is not only a problem for Brasil, but for all of us!
We ask other governments to:
-denounce Bolsonaro’s policies
-offer financial and technological help to tackle this crisis
-release official statements concerning this crisis
-show action taken towards a solution
As a human being who has nothing to do with politics, it’s very easy to feel completely powerless when a problem so much bigger than us arises. But by signing this petition, you are making your voice heard.
Here are other ways that you can help with, please do not sleep on this. We cannot continue business as usual when the safe keeping of our planet and our climate is at stake.
