Provide post-secondary student discount in Brampton Transit
Provide post-secondary student discount in Brampton Transit
The Issue
No matter how old one is, post-secondary students are also students whether they are enrolled in community college or a university. So, why is Brampton transit charging post-secondary students adult fees?
After I moved to Malton, I take the Brampton transit thrice a week to York University. I am enrolled in a full time Social Work Programme. As I am in campus for three days, it does not make sense to buy the monthly pass which is $118. For me, buying the E-purse is more logical - $2.80 per trip. My transit expenses are $16.80 per week, $67.20 per month and $268.80for a semester. In fact my transit expenditure has gone up by about $10.00 per month. Authorities in transit may think that it is not expensive but for me a university/post-secondary student, the cost adds up.
However, Mississauga transit offers post-secondary student discount. Presto E -purse cost per trip for post-secondary student is $2.45 per trip. Take for example a post-secondary student living in Mississauga and have classes three days a week. The student will pay $14.7 per week, $58.68 and for a semester $235.20.
There are many students like me who either study in community college in Brampton or have to travel to colleges and universities outside Brampton. The expenditure for travelling by public transport is huge.
I, and other fellow students, call upon Brampton Transit to provide post- Secondary student discount irrespective of whether they are stydying in Brampton or in the Greater Toronto Area.
