Our agricultural practices have changed. And it's unfortunate!

From using Manure & Compost  to chemical fertilisers; from using natural  jeevamrit/neemastra to spraying unregulated amounts of poisonous insecticides/pesticides/weedicides on our crops- we have come a long way! Sadly, while apparently these chemicals have helped in increasing production- they have silently started killing all of us! And many of us are still unaware!

Glyphosate- The Villain

According to a recent verdict by a Californian court, the agro chemical giant Monsanto has been fined with a hefty 289 million dollars to be paid to a pest control worker, who became a victim of cancer caused by consistent use of the weedicide- Roundup,  produced by the company. While earlier there had been speculation and time to time reports about the possible link between Cancer and Glyphosate (the chemical used in Roundup), the judgement has made the picture crystal clear- that Glyphosate is indeed a Carcinogenic Chemical.

Glyphosate Use in India

Contextualising it to India, Roundup is being widely used in our country, and more often in unregulated excessive amounts as there are barely any checks on the way and amount of its use. The use of Glyphosate creates serious health problem both for the sprayer and the consumer. The sprayer accidentally inhales the poison while spraying it and becomes a victim. All of us consume toxins as the poisonous chemicals in such weedicides/ pesticides/fertilisers become a part of the roots/leaves/fruits of the crop that we all eat! 

Imagine, what havoc such chemicals can wreak in the body of a 2 years old baby! It really scares me! We are collectively heading for a major health catastrophe by consuming such poison laden food.

The situation is more than alarming! It's time we urgently joined hands and together took a stand against the use of such hazardous chemicals in agriculture for the sake of the health of our loved ones. Health is the most precious treasure and no matter how comfort laden a life might be, it is no joy without good health!

I, through, this petition, am requesting our Health Minister Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda Ji and our Agriculture Minister Shri Radha Mohan Singh Ji to 

• Immediately ban the use of Roundup/Glyphosate in India
• Give major boost to organic agriculture.

If the petition reaches them and a decision is taken in our favour, we will have at least one less cancer causing agent in our diet- and that can make a huge difference in our health.

If we are not successful, we will continue eating and giving poison to our kids in their food!
