Bring Back Kiram's Mansion and Preserve our Heritage

Bring Back Kiram's Mansion and Preserve our Heritage

The Issue

Heritage is anything that is considered important enough to be passed on to the future generations. Cultural Heritage refers to cultural aspects like heritage sites, monuments, folklore, traditional activities and languages. It can provide an automatic sense of unity and belonging within a group and allows us to better understand previous generations and where we come from. It brings out the uniqueness and identity of certain groups. Without it, its uniqueness and color will cease to exist; lifeless and mundane. Thus,  we must preserve and sustain such heritage for the betterment of not only ourselves, but the community we are in as well.

The city of fruits and highland springs; Kidapawan is rich in culture and heritage, it’s full of life and vivid colors. Unfortunately, not so recently its colors started fading. It was when half of  kiram’s mansion got demolished, but what’s more sorrowful about it is Kidapawañeos indifference about it, it painfully depicts how apathetic the people are to their own heritage. They did not only destroy a building, but they also eridacted a part of history, a part of Kidapawan’s Heritage.  The mansion was one of the city’s most distinct landmarks. It was a fusion of Maranao and western architecture: a Torogan made of cement with Roman Pillars

We, the youth of today, deeply care about our culture and heritage because we believe one should always take part, be aware and preserve of one’s culture. It helps us shape our identity, our heritage becomes part of what we are. Our expression of this identity shows others what we value; it highlights our values and priorities. Our heritage provides clues to our past and how our society has evolved. It helps us examine our history and traditions and enables us develop an awareness about ourselves.

Help us bring back what once stood for 47 years, help us bring back our heritage, Help us bring back Kiram’s Mansion
